John,

Yesterday, I was proud to join President Biden for the signing of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

The IIJA will invest $1.2 trillion in our nation's infrastructure and bring billions of dollars to Chicago for roads, bridges, public transit and preparing for climate change. I am particularly excited about the new $1.75 billion in funding for transit accessibility that is modeled on the great work of CTA's All Stations Accessibility Program.

This bill will also complement our recently passed 2022 City Budget, which was the most progressive and forward-looking budget in Chicago's History. As our country and our city emerges from COVID, these critical investments will help us rebuild critical infrastructure and create good-paying jobs.

I am grateful for the President's leadership and the hard work of our city’s congressional delegation in getting this done. They still need our support to help pass the President's "Build Back Better" bill, which will lower costs for consumers, create more jobs, and cut taxes for working families.

I'm ready to keep fighting to Build Back Better. This bipartisan bill shows we can get it done.

Regards,

Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot
