Dear John, Every year, when we sit down to give thanks for the most meaningful blessings in our lives, we all wish we could say, “Thank you for peace throughout the world!” Of course, humanity can’t yet say that. But I know that we have the tools. That’s why one of the founding missions of The Carter Center is “Waging Peace.” And that’s why I’m so grateful for your partnership this year. When you support The Carter Center, you help fight for democracy. You help foster the rule of law and increase access to justice and government resources for all people – especially the poor and women, who too often are forgotten. You help call out injustice wherever it exists and insist that human rights are not something that can be postponed or bargained away. And you help provide mediation and training that has proven again and again that although conflict is inevitable, violence and war are not. |

People like these refugees in Mali rely on The Carter Center for intervention. Adama Barry (in green) fled her village to escape inter-tribal warfare. She didn’t want to leave, but she lived in fear. "We couldn’t go to the market; we couldn’t visit our farms. We were stuck inside," she said. "We hope to return home one day, but for now, it is impossible." Your support allows us to continue working as an independent observer in Mali, helping the government implement a peace agreement. And in so many other places, including Syria, Israel, and Palestine, we’ll be able to maintain efforts that keep dialogue open and provide pathways to defuse violence. |

In all these ways, you bring us closer to the day when we can honestly and joyfully sit down to Thanksgiving dinner and say, “Thank you for peace throughout the world!” Your support makes this important work possible so please make a generous gift today. Thank you for bringing hope to those in need. We at The Carter Center wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving. Sincerely,
Jimmy Carter Co-Founder and Trustee The Carter Center
