Property taxes are closely tied to school funding as well as other programs that serve our citizens, including housing, healthcare, and other public services. I will ensure that property tax assessments are fair and accurate. This combined office is also responsible for public records including birth, marriage, and death certificates. I believe there is an opportunity to streamline access to receiving these services and make the records more available to the public online.
With my background in the private sector creating jobs and my experience in government as Chair of the San Diego City Council Budget Committee, I am uniquely qualified for this position that manages a $76 million budget and a staff of 415 public servants. As the first elected official to call for an independent investigation of both the 101 Ash Street scandal and the Public Utilities Department's water bill overcharging fiasco, I have a proven record of asking the tough questions to identify government waste and to ensure taxpayer dollars are well spent.
I would be honored to be both the first woman and first Democrat elected to this countywide position. San Diego County has gone overwhelmingly blue in recent elections including electing three Democratic County Supervisors; yet, no Democrats occupy top countywide posts. My only announced opponent is a Republican, and a recent poll showed that we have a path to victory.
I hope this answers many of the core questions about this race.
As always, I'm available if you have any follow-up inquiries or feedback.
From the bottom of my heart, I am grateful for your continued support.
Can we count on you to help us assemble the resources to communicate with voters about why I am running and what that means for San Diego residents?
