John,
I was only 12 years old when the September 11 attacks happened — but the devastation of that day had a profound impact on me. So, when I turned 17 years old, I enlisted in the Marine Corps.
I wanted to make a difference in the world.
I was honored to serve overseas in Japan and Afghanistan. But like so many other veterans, when I returned home, I suffered from PTSD and had trouble transitioning to civilian life. Still, every time I attempted to file a disability claim, it was denied.
I knew I was not okay, and I just needed someone to listen.
A phone call to DAV changed everything.
As soon as I showed up for my first appointment with DAV, I felt welcomed. I had someone truly listening to me. They gave me the support I desperately needed — they helped me heal.
As we enter into this season of thanks and celebration, I want you to know how much your support for DAV means to veterans like me. When we need a listening ear, a helping hand or just someone who understands, DAV is there. And it’s YOUR support that makes that possible.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for supporting DAV — and for everything you do for our nation’s veterans.
