"A Shakedown, Sellout, and Cover-Up"; As Inquiry Picks Up Steam, Majority of Americans in Favor of Impeachment

Ever since the whistleblower report on Trump's call with Ukraine surfaced in mid-September, the public outcry from Trump's illegal behavior has continued to grow. Now that an impeachment inquiry has been launched in the House, public support for the inquiry (and for Trump's conviction and removal in the Senate) continues to reach new highs. PFAW has been working tirelessly with members, advocates, and other progressive organizations to hold the Trump administration accountable and we have ramped up our efforts in recent weeks as a result of the impeachment inquiry.

To help members better understand the Ukrainian scandal and what the impeachment proceedings will look like moving forward, PFAW hosted Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who spoke to members via a telebriefing on the impeachment process. A constitutional scholar, Raskin has served as something of an “Explainer-in-Chief” when it comes to the myriad constitutional threats posed by the Trump administration, explaining details of constitutional law in an accessible manner in press and public appearances.

PFAW Pulls Out All the Stops in Virginia; Bringing Out Starpower to Canvass for Progressive Champions Across the State

For the past several months, PFAW has been pulling out all the stops for the Virginia 2019 elections – knocking on doors, phonebanking, peer-to-peer texting, holding rallies with endorsees, putting out radio and television ads, and more. We know the stakes couldn't be higher, not only for the issues at play in the state, but for the bellweather which Virginia will invariably serve as for the 2020 elections.

Last week, actor and PFAW board member Alec Baldwin joined candidates and community volunteers to canvass doors, meet with supporters, and raise awareness to the importance of the upcoming elections. Baldwin stressed the need for political engagement among Virginians, encouraging those in attendance to "reach out to [their] friends in some way. In the world of politics, it is about some degree of giving." Whether it's through making phone calls, going door-to-door in other neighborhoods, or donating to a campaign, any and all effort to support Democratic candidates is encouraged.

Right Wing Watch: Meet the Far-Right House Members Who Stormed Secure Hearing Room

More than two dozen Republican House members stormed a closed-door hearing with a top Pentagon official in protest of the impeachment investigation of President Donald Trump. The storming stunt was staged a day after Trump had a White House meeting with members of the Freedom Caucus – who were among the Republicans storming the hearing – and has complained in recent days that Republicans have not been strong or vocal enough in their defense of him.

The House Republicans caused a five-hour delay, broke House rules, and compromised security by bringing cellphones and other electronic devices into the secure facility. So who are these security-flouting congressmen and congresswomen? We rounded up a few that have graced our pages here at Right Wing Watch.

PFAW's #VoteTheCourts2020 Campaign Has Officially Launched

Since Donald Trump became president, the judges he has appointed have voted to jeopardize our hard-won rights. Now more than ever, our next president needs to nominate fair-minded constitutionalists who value equality and justice for all. To protect our future, we must urge every candidate to share their plans to nominate judges who understand that the law and the Constitution protect all of us, not just the wealthy and powerful.

“More and more, voters now see the courts as a reason to vote for Democrats,” said Marge Baker, executive vice president for policy and program at PFAW. “Now voters want to hear more from Democratic presidential candidates themselves on this issue. They want to know that candidates will appoint fair-minded constitutionalists to the Supreme Court and the lower courts. This campaign is all about getting candidates to go on the record about the importance of the federal courts to voters’ daily lives, educating voters about what to listen for, and motivating more voters to think about the courts when they cast their ballots.”

Kathleen Turner: One Year After Brett Kavanaugh's Confirmation, "We Must Demand More"

During Kavanaugh’s confirmation process, multiple women came forward with sexual misconduct charges against Kavanaugh. During the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing into Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s charges, Kavanaugh was defensive, angry and entitled during his opening statements and throughout his questioning. Senate Republicans on the committee echoed Kavanaugh’s anger and perceived victimhood for being forced to endure questions about his past – and his fitness for a seat on the Supreme Court bench.

In a new op-ed in Ms. Magazine following the one-year anniversary of Kavanaugh's confirmation, Academy Award-nominated actor and PFAW Foundation board member Kathleen Turner reflects on the entitlement of privileged men and what it reveals about our political leadership.
