Moments ago, President Biden took historic action and signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law.
I’m proud to have helped broker this compromise and secured critical funding for infrastructure here in Virginia and across the country. High-quality infrastructure makes our country safer, stronger and more resilient.
This is transformative, groundbreaking legislation that will have enormous effects across our Commonwealth. Here’s just some of what you can expect to see:
- More than $100 million to help expand access to affordable broadband to as many as 473,000 Virginians. Additionally, 1.9 million Virginians will be eligible to receive assistance to lower the cost of their Internet bills.
- $7 billion for Virginia highway projects like I-81 and I-95, along with $537 million to repair many of Virginia's 577 bridges in poor condition to improve safety and efficiency for travelers across the Commonwealth.
- More passenger rail across the state, including Amtrak and Virginia Railway Express.
- $1.2 billion for public transit improvements, including investments in the safety and efficiency of the Metro.
- Funding to help places like Hampton Roads upgrade their infrastructure to prepare for the impacts of rising sea levels, flooding, and extreme weather.
- And so much more!
