Burgum signs legislation providing $211M in income tax relief for 500,000 North Dakotans

Gov. Doug Burgum signed legislation Friday to provide an estimated $211 million in income tax relief over the next two years by eliminating the state income tax bill for approximately 300,000 North Dakota taxpayers and providing partial relief to another 200,000 taxpayers. The tax relief fulfills a major piece of the governor’s Accelerate ND plan for the Legislature’s special session, which adjourned today.

Burgum calls for investment in infrastructure, workforce, economic development and tax relief

Gov. Burgum delivered his State of the State address on Monday to a special session of the 67th Legislative Assembly, calling for investment of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars and the state’s excess ending fund balance into infrastructure, tax relief, workforce, economic development and other priorities to move North Dakota forward.

Gov. Burgum last week joined Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem in announcing that North Dakota has joined nine other states in a lawsuit challenging the Biden administration’s mandate that employers who receive funding through Medicare or Medicaid programs must require their employees to be vaccinated for COVID-19.

Governor addresses Veterans Day ceremony at Heritage Center

“On Veterans Day, we give thanks to the more than 50,000 military veterans in North Dakota and those veterans who are no longer with us for their incredible service and sacrifice in the name of freedom,” Burgum said. “To these veterans and the families who have served alongside them, we owe a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid. As Americans who enjoy the liberty that our men and women in uniform have defended for the past nearly 250 years, we all have a duty to honor their service, uphold the values they fought to protect and ensure they know how much we appreciate and support them.”
