Hello,

This week's edition will discuss the purpose of memory, Fiat vs. Bitcoin standards, and the power of writing.

The Purpose of Memory

People think that the purpose of memory is to remember the past. That's not the purpose of memory.

The purpose of memory is to extract out, from the past, lessons to structure the future. That's the purpose of personal memory. So, you're done with a memory when you've extracted the information that you can use to guide yourself properly in the future.

If you have a traumatic memory, for example, that's obsessing you, if you analyze that memory to the point where you figured out how you put yourself at risk. You can determine how you might avoid that in the future, and then the emotion associated with that goes away.

Monday Reflections

"“I don't think that you have any insight whatsoever into your capacity for good until you have some well-developed insight into your capacity for evil." (Share this on Twitter)

"Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today." (Share this on Twitter)

"People don't really repress the things they don't want to face, they just fail to unpack them." (Share this on Twitter)

The Power Of Writing | Jordan B. Peterson

Dr. Peterson:

"No. You need to learn to think because thinking makes you act effectively in the world...thinking makes you win the battles you undertake and those could be battles for good things. If you can think and speak and write, you are absolutely deadly, nothing can get in your way. Teach people to be articulate because that's the most dangerous thing you can possibly be. So and that's motivating if people know that it's like well why are you learning to write? Well, here's your sword, here's your M 16, here's your bulletproof vest. Learn how to use them."
