Friend, during the tumultuous and dangerous four years of Donald Trump's presidency, his administration debased and degraded our judicial branch of government. I'm not just talking about the Supreme Court – though, perhaps, that is the most egregious and obvious example of our courts being handed over to right-wing ideologues. No, I'm talking about the hundreds of judicial appointments Donald Trump made up and down the country – oftentimes unqualified, partisan judges who now hold the fate of justice for countless Americans in their hands.

Believe it or not, Friend, the third branch of our democratic republic – our judicial system – has everything to do with why I'm reaching out to you about my mid-month fundraising goal. I hope you'll allow me a moment to explain why raising these last $3,532 is so crucial to protecting Senate control and democracy. (You can make a donation here: [link removed] )

By the grace of a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Kamala Harris, Democratic control of the Senate allows us to work to correct the calamity Trump inflicted on our judicial branch. In partnership with President Biden, Senate Democrats are confirming qualified, diverse, and impartial judges across the country. And in the event that a Supreme Court vacancy arises, we currently have the votes to confirm the president's nominee and rebalance our highest court away from its current, extreme right majority. That is, as long as we retain control of the Senate by winning elections in 2022.

In the meantime, we have a small window of opportunity to repair and protect our judiciary, and all are working as hard as they possibly can to make progress…Ted Cruz's attempts to block and delay every nomination notwithstanding. Senate control is precarious. More and more, political experts are categorizing races across the country as "toss-ups" and predicting the real threat of Republican control of Congress in 2022. Indeed, recent election results in Virginia and across the country show the map for Republicans is expanding. They could very well take back Senate control (they only need to flip one seat). Mitch McConnell is already making me a top target. If he succeeds in his passion for power, "equal justice under the law" is truly in peril.

This is where I need you to come through, Friend. It's not just about raising the last $3,532 before our mid-month fundraising deadline. It's about securing the resources to protect this Senate seat and Democratic control in Congress.
