While many swing seat Democrats are afraid to be bold on the environment, Rep. Cartwright has been a leader in fighting for common-sense pro-environment policies.
Hey John — have you heard about Rep. Matt Cartwright, Vice Chair of SEEC?
Rep. Matt Cartwright represents Pennsylvania’s eighth congressional district, including President Joe Biden’s hometown of Scranton. He is one of only a handful of Democrats who won districts that Donald Trump also won.
While many swing seat Democrats are afraid to be bold on the environment, Rep. Cartwright has been a leader in fighting for common-sense pro-environment policies. During the Trump years, he stood against harmful safeguard rollbacks and in 2021 has introduced practical legislation that would make a real difference to everyday Americans.
As an example: Rep. Matt Cartwright introduced the Revitalizing the Economy of Coal Communities by Leveraging Local Activities and Investing More (RECLAIM) Act and a bill to reauthorize the Abandoned Mine Reclamation Fund.
These bills would accelerate the process of cleaning up abandoned mine sites by extending the clean up fees paid by coal companies and expediting the release of funds to support economic development and environmental restoration of land and water resources negatively impacted by coal mining. In short: they would create jobs while cleaning up our land and water.
Rep. Cartwright has been a bold fighter, but according to an internal memo from a GOP powerhouse group, Republicans see him as their #2 top target to defeat. And the Republicans running against him (he already has two opponents!) are 100% opposed to green policies.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
