Join our Equal Pay Day campaign


Are you ready to campaign for Equal Pay on Thursday 18th November? 

This Equal Pay Day, our campaign calls on employers to take the #EndSalaryHistory pledge – to stop asking new recruits how much they were paid in their previous jobs.

Asking for salary history is a recruitment practice that perpetuates the gender pay gap. Research is clear that women, disabled people and people of colour are likely to earn less. That means that when employers base their pay decisions on past wages, rather than on skills, experience and performance, it embeds inequality.

Employers can be a champion for #EqualPay by ending the practice of asking for salary history. It is a simple measure to implement and importantly, it works.

Equal Pay Day is when women stop earning, relative to men, because of the gender pay gap. This year, the gender pay gap is 11.9%, an increase from 10.6% last year. An increase in the gender pay gap is alarming and that's why we need you to help us tackle pay inequality and join in the #EqualPayDay campaign. 
We want employers across the UK to commit to #EndSalaryHistory and tackle pay inequality...and that’s where you come in.

We need you – Fawcett supporters – to take action with us this Equal Pay Day.

Here is what you can do:
  • If you employ people (whether it is 1,100 or more!) you can take the #EndSalaryHistory pledge
  • Use your consumer power! Write to businesses you buy from or those in your networks asking them to take the #EndSalaryHistory pledge, using our template email
  • Join our social media action on Equal Pay Day – 18th November – at 1.30pm by tagging in businesses and asking them to #EndSalaryHistory. You can use our suggested posts here or write your own.
  • Start the conversation in your organisation – use this toolkit created by Fawcett East London to see how you can start a conversation about pay in your workplace. You can do this as an employee, a trustee or a union representative.
Your voice has power, and we can’t do it without you!

Join Fawcett MCR for their second public meeting where they will be talking about Equal Pay Day and taking action to #EndSalaryHistory. If you live in Manchester, it is a great opportunity to meet Fawcett members and get involved with this new local group in the Manchester area.

#AskHerToStand event 


Our friends at Women 50:50 would like to invite you to their inspirational #AskHerToStand Zoom event this evening from 6 - 7.30pm

Let’s all support women who want to progress in politics. The mission at 50:50 Parliament is to build a better democracy, one in which women have equal seats and equal say.

This event marks the 103rd year of the Qualification of Women Act, which was passed on 21 November 1918 and allowed women to stand for election for the first time ever. Since then over 5000 MPs have been elected but only 556 women. There are still two times more men than women on most elected bodies.

Hear from an inspirational panel about how we can all help women succeed in politics with plenty of time for networking.
