Dear John
You may recall that some weeks ago, we asked our supporters
to help us by filling in a survey on perceptions and experiences of
the cost of living crisis and of recent food and fuel
shortages.
Our survey is now closed - and the
results reveal a bleak picture of a nation that has been failed by its
leaders.
The vast majority of respondents
(61%) had been affected by food shortages in recent weeks. 50.7% of
all those who took the survey said that fuel shortages had affected
them. Our results also show that over half of respondents (50.7%) have
noticed a decline in their living standards over the past two years.
Just 4% have seen an improvement.
While these results reflect recent
economic turbulence, they are also an indictment of our current
Government and its failure to improve standards of living since it was
formed. Our respondents’ personal testimonies paint a picture of a
steadily declining quality of life against a backdrop of increasingly
harsh economic and social conditions. This isn’t just about the
pandemic - it’s a question of continual poor governance which
transforms economic shocks into societal calamities.
At Best for Britain, we’re
determined to hold this Government to account for its failure to serve
all of us. As standards of living decline across the board, the
already poor and marginalised are the ones who feel the strain most.
And so, once more, we’re asking you to take action.
We need to show this Government and
our elected representatives - whichever party they are a member of -
that the people of Britain will not stand for a sustained erosion of
their living standards. We will not stand for levelling down, we will
not stand for continual chaos, and we will not stand for endless
squeezes on the poorest in our society.
Show this Government that its poor
policy-making is intolerable - send an email to your MP
today.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith
