John, so we just learned that Dr. Oz, a former advisor to President Trump who gave him yet another platform to mislead the public on the pandemic, is considering jumping into Pennsylvania’s U.S. Senate race.

For years, Dr. Oz has been pushing phony science — things like magic weight loss pills that even he has acknowledged, and we quote, “don't have the scientific muster to present as fact.” He’s been in front of Congress before to answer for this disinformation he’s been pushing.

That’s a little different than Val. Instead, she spent her career as a doctor working in Philadelphia teaching hospitals in the operating room and on the labor and delivery floor caring for patients. She saw how much life outside of the doctor’s office affected people’s health and landed them in that examination room.

Children with asthma who couldn’t play outside because the air in their neighborhood wasn’t clean. A pregnant mom who had to choose between sacrificing nutrition by shopping at a convenience store or taking two buses to get to a supermarket. A young, pregnant woman with a pre-existing heart condition who was denied insurance before the Affordable Care Act.

We need a doctor in the U.S. Senate, and better still a woman physician, someone who will bring some badly needed perspective to Washington. But we need a real doctor, not a Trump enabler pushing false facts for celebrity and profit.
