As President Biden and other world leaders convene for the U.N Climate Change conference, China’s Communist Party officials are meeting to chart their path forward to become the world’s superpower.
Bottom Line: “Rep. Mike Gallagher is questioning a nearly $1.5 billion decrease in reported foreign gifts to U.S. colleges and universities since President Biden took office... In his letter, the congressman alleges that foreign money "often creates financial incentives for universities to act in the policy interests of adversarial foreign governments" such as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).”
Do you agree that this sudden decrease in foreign gifts is suspicious? Bottom Line: “China's military has built mockups in the shape of a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier and other U.S. warships, possibly as training targets, in the desert of Xinjiang ...These mockups reflect China's efforts to build up anti-carrier capabilities, specifically against the U.S. Navy, as tensions remain high with Washington over Taiwan and the South China Sea." Bottom Line: “Several hundred top members of the Chinese Communist Party are meeting behind closed doors this week in Beijing, where they will map out key plans for the nation's future. It's the last major meeting before next year's party congress, when Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to be appointed for a third term after he successfully pushed to abolish term limits in 2018.” Bottom Line: "The top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee is warning that America could lose the “new Cold War” with China in the next decade, after Beijing’s launch of a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile that caught US intelligence officials off guard.Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wis.) said the test-firing of the missile “should serve as a call to action.” Bottom Line: “President Joe Biden apologized to other world leaders on Monday for the Trump administration's decision to exit the Paris climate agreement, saying during the United Nations' climate summit that the US' exit put the country behind in its climate goals...In his earlier opening remarks at the summit, Biden issued a plea and a warning to global leaders to take forceful action on climate change, even as his own climate ambitions hang in the balance.”
