On Nov. 3, Emerge Massachusetts alum Michelle Wu became the first woman and first person of color elected as Boston’s mayor. She built her campaign on the power of community relationships, and now she’s bringing that power, authenticity, and trust to the mayor’s office.

Honoring those relationships means listening, understanding and taking action. That’s why Wu is committed to:
* Closing the racial wealth gap
* Investing in restorative justice and community trust
* Prioritizing accessible and stable housing for all
* Supporting workers’ rights, workplace safety, livable wages

Mayor-elect Wu now faces one of the fastest transitions ever. She officially assumes office in less than two weeks! Up first, taking on the city's response to the urgent issues exacerbated by the pandemic. She says:

“The mandate from [the election results] is to take on the big challenges facing our city and to do so in a way that truly brings everyone into the conversation,”

And we couldn't agree more.

Wu’s victory shows once again that Emerge’s programs work. But more that that, this win is a resounding endorsement of our vision – that transformation is possible when we listen to real people, invest in deep community work, and pack the political pipeline with bold women leaders ready to run and win.

Michelle Wu's Journey:
2008 - Emerge is founded
2010 - Michelle Wu goes through program
2012 - Michelle works on Elizabeth Warren's campaign for U.S. Senate
2013 - Michelle runs (and wins) campaign for Boston city council at-large
2016 - Michelle becomes city council president
2017 - Michelle wins reelection as highest vote getter
2021 - Michelle runs (and wins) campaign for mayor

Team Emerge is proud to have phenomenal women leaders in our sisterhood – making history, shattering glass ceilings, and creating better opportunities for all. Will you donate now to help recruit, train, and elect MORE Democratic women up and down the ballot, in every state?

Emerge is a national organization working to recruit, train, and get Democratic women elected across the country, and we are so grateful to have you on our team. Our alums are strong voices for Democratic values — and they are running up and down the ballot to fight for working families. They are fighting for critical issues that affect our communities, such as the environment, accessible and affordable health care, social justice, and education equity. We need more alums fighting for us across the country.

You may notice that we send a lot of emails asking for your support — that’s because we win when everyone does what they can to help. Our organization depends on thousands of actual people who care about our democracy and want to see positive change in our communities and across our country by building power through investing in Democratic women. If you’d like to donate, click here.
