Wastewater runoff from Big Ag is contaminating Florida’s waters. The algae bloom caused by polluted runoff blocks the sunlight that seagrass and other aquatic vegetation need to survive. Blooms turn the water murky and manatees and other species starve to death.
We know you care about manatees, and so do we. That’s why Food & Water Watch is working to protect manatees by fighting water pollution at its source — Big Ag’s factory farms. But the scope of our work depends on YOU.
Instead of protecting waterways and the animals that depend on them, the Environmental Protection Agency has given Big Ag a blank check to pollute. The dismantling of clean water protections has allowed Big Ag to dump more waste in our waters — including the chemical fertilizers and factory farm manure that feed toxic algae blooms — and this free-pass to pollute has gone unchecked and unpunished for years.
That’s why Food & Water Watch is fighting to change this. We're working every day to ban factory farms, stop their pollution, and rein in Big Ag. If we want to protect manatees and their habitats, we need to take on Big Ag. And to do that, we need your help in our fight to restore environmental protections.
