Hi John,

I wanted to drop you a quick note today to mark the third anniversary of my swearing-in ceremony.

Usually, after a Representative-elect has won in November they are sworn in the next January. But in 2018, because one Representative retired early from a district that was being split by redistricting, I had to run in two elections at once—a special election to fill out the remainder of the retiring member's term in PA-07, and another for a full two-year term in redrawn PA-05. And with my incredible supporters like you, I won—twice!

On November 13, 2018 I was sworn in to serve for less than two months, then again in January for my full two-year term. I remember calling myself the “advance guard” ahead of the class of 2018!

John, I want to thank you for giving me the chance to always be the advance guard.

I've spent my life and career fighting for folks who wouldn't otherwise have a seat at the table. I've never stopped fighting just as hard to expand voting rights, to fix our broken criminal justice system, and to improve our children's quality of life as I was on day one—and it's all because of you.

Three years ago, when the Republican Party had total control over the government, I never could have imagined where we would be today. You gave Democrats our House majority in 2018 and defended it in 2020.

Because of you, John, I have so much to be grateful for looking back on the time I've spent in Congress so far.

And the best part? The fact that we still have so much to accomplish together.

Thank you for putting your trust in me, I will work every day to make sure I've earned it. Thank you for everything, John.

-Mary Gay
