‌“Republican gerrymandering promises even more polarized Congress” -- The Hill

John -- A new editorial in The Hill claims Republicans are drawing district lines -- that ignore demographic changes seen in the 2020 census data and eliminate competitive seats -- in states with the largest population gains, such as Texas, North Carolina, and Georgia.

The article says their actions could further polarize our politics and grant them half a dozen seats in the U.S. House. This is alarming because they only need five seats to gain a majority. [[link removed]]

We set a mid-month goal of raising $36,500 by Monday at 11:59pm to help prevent conservatives from manipulating their way to a majority in 2022.

The plan is to hold conservative map drawers accountable during redistricting RIGHT NOW while pressuring Congress to pass federal legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act to ban partisan gerrymandering and protect the right to vote.

Instead of winning those five seats by appealing to a broader electorate, Republicans are manipulating maps and drowning out a chance for voters to have fair representation.

It becomes obvious that this is their plan when you look at the maps passed in states like North Carolina and Texas -- and the maps they’re attempting to enact in places like Georgia and Ohio.

One of the reasons our movement is advocating relentlessly for the Freedom to Vote Act is because the provisions would go into effect immediately and we have already determined the congressional maps passed in Texas and North Carolina would FAIL the gerrymandering test in the bill.

We still have time to prevent a GOP takeover in Congress, but we need to act with urgency.
