...a Port Authority bus was swallowed by a giant sinkhole. I'm not kidding.
Miraculously, there were only two people on board: the driver and a passenger, who are both okay.
This story should be unbelievable. But in Pennsylvania, crumbling bridges and roads are a way of life.
Thankfully, we're talking about a lot of big, bold ideas to tackle this challenge head-on: like Governor Wolf's Restore Pennsylvania plan, which will put $4.5 billion behind building stronger infrastructure, improving transportation, and combating blight. Or tax revenue from marijuana legalization, which a clear majority of Pennsylvanians support.
But we can't do this alone. With many legislators making it clear they'd rather spend their time advancing legislation like anti-choice "heartbeat bills" that will surely be vetoed rather than coming to the table to work on serious issues like infrastructure — this work isn't going to be easy.
We know that the best policy decisions — from infrastructure to marijuana legalization — are made when people with diverse opinions, ideas, and belief systems participate in a conversation together. And if the best policy decisions aren't being made in Harrisburg, we know that people-powered grassroots advocacy is necessary to fight back.
Monthly contributions help us do that. They help us plan our budget, dictate our grassroots mobilization efforts, and even determine how we can help support Democrats on the ballot in Pennsylvania next year.
Humbled as always to have you with us,
John
