Dear Neighbor:
Last week, the House of Representatives passed President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, a once-in-a-generation investment that will create good-paying jobs modernizing our infrastructure, address the climate crisis head-on, and ensure economic prosperity in the 21st century. The bill now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law on Monday.
For our state of California, the bill will provide:
- $25.3 billion to repair highways;
- $4.2 billion to repair bridges;
- $9.5 billion to improve public transportation;
- $384 million to expand electric vehicle charging;
- $84 million to protect against wildfires;
- $100 million to help provide broadband access;
- $3.5 billion to ensure our communities have access to safe, clean drinking water;
- Good-paying, quality jobs for Californians; and more.
We also formally began the process of voting on the Build Back Better Act, which is a once-in-a-generation effort to lower the everyday costs that burden working families – from health care to child care & more. It would also be the largest investment to combat climate change in our nation’s history. Together, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and the Build Back Better Act will create an average of 2 million jobs each year over the course of the decade. Democrats are delivering For the People!
Happy Veterans Day!
Yesterday, we honored Veterans Day, a time to thank those who’ve served and sacrificed as members of our nation’s Armed Forces. I marked Veterans Day with my annual “Conversations with Veterans” community event and listened to the stories of veterans from California’s 33rd District. It was an excellent event and a true honor to hear the moving stories of veterans in our community.
Preventing Oil Spills
This week, I introduced a bill to increase civil and criminal penalties for oil spills. Our coastlines face a perpetual threat so long as oil drilling is permitted. My bill creates an incentive for oil companies to update their infrastructure and be proactive in preventing spills.
