USCIS sometimes takes 10 months or more to approve an employment renewal.

Dear John,

A doctor treating underserved populations. A long-haul truck driver. A manager in food services. A tech worker. A health care provider for special needs children.

These people will lose—or have already lost—their essential jobs due to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) extreme delays in renewing their work authorization.

The American Immigration Council and our partners filed a nationwide class action lawsuit on behalf of these five workers, all of whom are seeking asylum in the U.S. based on persecution in their home countries.

USCIS sometimes takes 10 months or more to approve a renewal. The lawsuit seeks to force USCIS to address delays and renew asylum seekers’ work authorizations in a timely manner.
