Hey John,
Let’s take a little trip through the FEC filings of Scott Franklin’s 2020 election campaign.
During his campaign, Franklin received more than $400,000 in support from “Wingman PAC.” Two things about this:
- This is a perfect example of the serious problem we have in this country with money in politics. PACs like this—literally called single-candidate super PACs—allow corporations, shady interest groups, and super wealthy individuals to give far, far beyond the legal limit of $2,900 per individual.
- Guess who personally contributed $77,000 to Wingman PAC (plus $2,000 directly to the campaign)1 to prop up the insurrectionist, anti-worker, anti-choice guy that’s our current Congressman? None other than fellow insurrectionist, anti-worker, anti-choice Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz.
As if Franklin’s own voting record wasn’t bad enough, this just further goes to show why we cannot let him spend another term in Congress. Donate to help me defeat him — just imagine each dollar you donate as another door hitting Franklin on his way out of the Capitol building.
(Franklin also voted against stripping extremist Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene of her committee assignments after she called for members of Congress to be assassinated, and I’m putting this in a parenthetical because it doesn’t fit into the horrible-politicians-from-my-home-state, but it does go to show what kind of guy Scott Franklin is!)
Even worse, he apparently takes pride in his friendship with Gaetz, going so far as to 1) shamelessly tweet about it and 2) make a really lazy pun about Wingman PAC. Yeesh.
Defeating Republican incumbents is hard. Defeating insurrectionists, especially ones that have formed a pack so they can deny science and fuel genuinely dangerous conspiracy theories as a team, is even harder.
Chip in a few dollars to help me flip Florida’s 15th District blue, and get the “wingmen” (🤢) out of Washington.
Thanks for sticking with me,
Eddie
