Welcome to Friday, November 12th, tortellinis and raviolis…

An appeals court has temporarily blocked the release of Trump’s White House records related to the Jan. 6 riot.

This potentially brief reprieve came two days after a district judge ruled against Trump:

A congressional committee is looking into whether Trump had prior knowledge of the Jan 6 insurrection, in which supporters of his presidency stormed the U.S. Capitol ([link removed]) , inspired by the president's repeated falsehoods that the 2020 election was "rigged."

Trump’s legal team had argued that he can block the records from being used in the investigation due to executive privilege. But Judge Chutkan rejected this assertion on Tuesday. On Thursday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit granted Trump's emergency motion for an injunction preventing the release of documents.

The case is likely to reach the Supreme Court.

** What Does the Data Say About America’s Veterans?
------------------------------------------------------------

**
------------------------------------------------------------

The overall population of veterans in the U.S. has declined in recent decades as veterans from World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War age and pass away.

The change also reflects how the U.S. military has been an all-volunteer since the mid-1970s, after the Selective Service ([link removed]) stopped issuing draft orders in early 1973.

When the U.S. economy was experiencing historically low unemployment rates for much of 2019 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, veterans had lower unemployment rates than the population as a whole.
