Food truck pitmaster fights Farmville’s protectionist laws for right to earn an honest living

 

Mark Shirley brought his Ole Time Smokehouse food truck to Farmville in 2019, and despite a pandemic, his offerings quickly developed a loyal customer base.

Although Mark steered clear of public streets and rented a parking spot on private property, some brick-and-mortar restaurants complained about his success. The town has since changed its Food Truck Ordinance with rules so onerous, expensive, and unlawful that Mark was forced to move his truck to the outskirts of town.
