As we plan out our work for next year, here’s what's on the horizon:
Midterm elections for all the seats in the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate, not to mention state and local races all around the country as well. The Far Right is already hoping for a takeover of Congress; we plan to stop them by exposing and disrupting the extremists in their ranks through projects like our Right Wing Watch.
The fight over judicial nominations will heat up dramatically – with a potential Supreme Court nomination in the mix. With the slimmest possible majority in the Senate, President Biden has been able to start rolling back the tide of right-wing judges installed under Trump. But if Republicans recapture the Senate, Mitch McConnell has made no secret of the fact that he’ll slam the brakes on this progress – so we’ll be pushing to help confirm President Biden’s nominees AND make sure McConnell stays in the minority where he belongs.
The fight for voting rights will continue and escalate. We’re cautiously optimistic that President Biden will lead the way to fixing or nixing the filibuster, and getting the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act signed into law this year. But this won’t end the struggle for voting rights; there’s just no way that the Far Right will give up their odious tactics of voter suppression – so we’ll keep fighting hard to ensure the sacred right to vote is fully protected for ALL Americans.
