Friend—I'm overwhelmed with the outpouring of support to my email! We're just $20,000 away from our Fall Campaign goal, and every little bit helps. We have just a few days left to reach our goal. Will you donate right now?
Friend,
So far this year, 7,200 people have been laid off in the news business. In one brutal week, more than 1,000 reporters, editors, and other journalists lost their jobs at publications which include Buzzfeed, HuffPost, and Gannett-owned newspapers like USA Today.
With each layoff came an email or sometimes a speech in a somber newsroom, each beginning the same way:
“This is a tough day today.” “I have some sad news.” “I've loved working with all of you.”
My heart breaks at the thought of having ever to say these words to our news team at Common Dreams.
For more than 20 years, our small team of journalists has worked diligently to bring independent news to the world with no paid advertisements and no corporate ownership. We rely on supporters like you to keep the gears grinding in our office every day, so we can continue to bring you breaking news and insightful, hard-hitting viewpoints from across the progressive community.
And because we don't have profit-seeking investors, we have never once been forced to lay off staff. I'm reaching out to you to make sure we never have to.
We need to raise $50,000 during our Fall Campaign, and we're behind where we need to be to reach that goal. So I'm asking you, right now, to give what you can to support Common Dreams and keep independent, nonprofit journalism going.
Every contribution makes a huge difference, and we have just a few days left to reach our goal. Please click here and support Common Dreams during our crucial Fall Campaign.
