Everyone,

Today, we thank and honor the generations of courageous Americans that have answered our nation's call to serve, to keep us safe, and to protect our freedoms. We thank these patriots for putting their lives on the line in the name of liberty, justice, and equality for all people.

As we celebrate today, I think of John F. Kennedy and his words:

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them."

While we pay tribute to our veterans today, we must always be mindful of our moral responsibility to serve them as they have served us. As Governor, I will ensure that Maryland's veterans never have to worry about transitioning to a good-paying civilian job, pursuing higher education, or receiving quality mental and physical health care.

To our veterans: I thank you, and I promise to serve and honor you as you have served us.
