We need broad support to finally repeal the discriminatory IMD exclusion Hello John, Treatment Advocacy Center strongly supports Representative Grace Napolitano’s (D-Calif.) legislation to repeal the Institutions for Mental Diseases (IMD) exclusion. HR 2611, the Increasing Behavioral Health Treatment Act could finally put an end to the payment prohibition that discriminates against people with severe mental illness (SMI). Bipartisan support from across the country will be crucial for Congress to seriously consider this bill, so we need your help to garner broad support! Please ask your congressperson to cosponsor this critical bill. Customize our sample message with your personal story on the devastating impact bed shortages—which the IMD exclusion perpetuates—can cause. Use our form to send your message directly to your congressperson. TAKE ACTION Read more about the discriminatory IMD exclusion in a recent op-ed in The Hill by Michael Gray, Legislative and Policy Counsel at Treatment Advocacy Center. Thank you for your advocacy on behalf of those with severe mental illness.
