Me, on the far left.

I wanted to share some of my story with you, and talk about why I’m proud to be a part of Dr. Gillian Battino’s campaign for U.S. Senate.

Before getting into politics, I spent seven years as an Infantry and Recon Noncommissioned Officer serving on the frontlines of both Iraq and Afghanistan. During that time, my fellow soldiers and I found ourselves in some of the most dangerous and terrifying situations imaginable.

Many did not make it home, and those of us who did returned as different people. We carry with us scars that are both visible and invisible, which can make the transition back into civilian life incredibly challenging.

This Veteran’s Day, I want to ask you to take a moment with me to thank and appreciate all of the men and women who have, are currently, or will serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. But we can’t just thank them — we must follow through on our commitments to them.

Dr. Battino shares my belief that we can and should do more to take care of our veterans. Having worked within the Veterans Affairs health care system, Dr. Battino understands the unique challenges facing those returning home from war zones, and she is ready to ensure that our retiring service members get connected to the education, employment opportunities, first-class health care benefits, and rehabilitation services that they deserve.

So this Veterans Day, I’m proud to be working to elect Dr. Gillian Battino — someone who will fight for veterans as they have fought for us. And before the day is over, make sure you let the veterans in your life know how much you appreciate their service, make sure they know you’re there if they need to talk, and ask them to tell you their favorite or funniest story from their time serving. I guarantee you, it will be hilarious.

Thanks for reading,

Alex Heaton

It’s time for a new kind of leadership in Wisconsin. Gillian built her career on integrity, advocacy, and action, and she’s ready to put that skill set to work in the U.S. Senate! It's going to take all of us working together to defeat Ron Johnson to get her there, but if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. Dr. Gillian Battino has dedicated her life’s work to bettering the world and continues that commitment every day. Gillian spent 20+ years serving the people of Wisconsin and helping women in the fight against breast cancer. She has seen, up close and personal, the difference that access to quality health care can make.
