Each Veterans Day, we as a nation come together to remember the sacrifices that veterans and their families have made in the defense of the United States of America.

Recently, President Biden said of veterans and military families, "[they] do so much and ask for little. They are strong and adaptable, changing course to accommodate the needs of our country, often foregoing personal wishes. They are capable and proud, holding down the home front during their loved one’s deployments, coping through their absence and the risk of danger, and helping them readjust when they come home."

As servicemembers, veterans, and their families take on this responsibility and commitment, part of our own obligation to them and each other as Americans is to make sure we take care of and look after them if and when they return home. It is no small thing that we have a President in the White House who knows first-hand what it is like to have a loved one deployed with the armed forces. I'm grateful that we have in President Biden someone who recognizes and understands that anxiety and sacrifice, and will fight to make sure we have their backs on and off the battlefield.

Taking time today to remember those who have served and their family members is a small yet important part of our shared duty as Americans. If you are a veteran, thank you for your service and sacrifices. If you are a family member of a veteran, thank you for the sacrifices you made and endured when your loved ones were serving to keep us safe and to defend our freedoms.
