Here’s how you helped refugees by supporting UNHCR

Dear John,

Last winter, we assisted a total of 2.5 million refugees and displaced people across Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt. Two million of those helped were Syrian, and our teams delivered aid in all 14 of Syria’s governorates as well as to refugees who’d fled their country and are hosted in the region.

Our expert UNHCR teams started preparing for winter early by delivering cash assistance and items to weather-proof homes. We at UNHCR stayed on the ground, despite extreme winter temperatures, snow and storms, to ensure people had access to emergency items like thermal blankets and warm winter clothes.

Adding fuel to the fire

Climate change is making extreme weather events – including winter storms and flooding – more frequent and intense. The climate crisis is a human crisis.
It is driving displacement and making life even harder for people already forced to flee by conflict. That’s why UNHCR is at COP26, calling on states to make all possible efforts to curb the devastating humanitarian consequences of the climate emergency, and to focus on communities most in need of support, who are already on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

This year we are getting prepared for a harsher winter. Join us again to help us be ready to support refugees and displaced families survive the winter months.

Thank you,
