John,
On this and every Veterans Day, I want to extend my gratitude to the men and women who have served in our armed forces.
As we take a moment to honor our current service members, it’s just as important to acknowledge the reality that the transition to civilian life for veterans is oftentimes difficult and unforgiving.
The best way I know how to address those challenges is by using my position in Congress to advocate for and pass legislation that supports current service members, veterans, and their families. That's what I've done as a member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs and Chair of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity -- which focuses on veterans' education and job training, housing programs, and more.
This year, we were able to secure hundreds of millions of dollars through the American Rescue Plan to support veterans, specifically helping them prepare for new careers in high-demand jobs with the goal of achieving long-lasting and stable employment.
I'm proud of our work, but there's still so much to do. No one who serves this country should be without the best possible health care, a place to live, or a good job to put food on the table.
Today, and every day, let’s honor those who have served. And let’s recommit to doing better for those who have sacrificed so much for our country.
