Hello — Today is Veterans Day — a day when we honor those who answered the call to defend our nation. I’m reflecting on the sacrifices of all of our veterans — including the Navajo code talkers and Bataan Death March survivors who sacrificed so much for New Mexico and our country in World War II. And I’m thinking of my father, a veteran and a lineman. If you or a loved one has served, thank you. I promise that I will keep working as Chair of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee to ensure our men and women in uniform have what they need to keep us safe — and receive the support they need after their service. Because our servicemembers and veterans deserve more than our words. They deserve the best health care, benefits, and opportunities available. We have made groundbreaking investments in veterans’ health care — including in rural and hard-to-reach communities. And we’ve made big gains in providing homeless assistance, transportation, and more. But we won’t stop there. We as a nation have promised to take care of our veterans. I will always work to fulfill that promise. Thank you. — Martin |
