John,

Veterans Day is an important reminder to show our appreciation for the brave service members who have sacrificed for our nation. On this day and everyday we remember their bravery to stand up for the American people and protect the freedoms that we enjoy.

The service members who answered our nation's call to serve represent the very best of our American values: They've shown selflessness in the face of danger, readiness to step up to help others, and an unwavering commitment to our country.

Our state is home to more than 130,000 veterans, and I know each of these heroes has their own story of honor, duty, and sacrifice. To each of New Mexico's veterans, I am endlessly thankful for your sacrifice.

Our service members leave behind families when they are deployed, and I am so thankful for the sacrifices that these spouses, children, and parents make at home while their loved ones are away serving our country.

We can never fully repay the debt we owe our nation's veterans and their families, but I hope we start by showing these selfless Americans the respect they deserve on this day of remembrance.

To all of our veterans and their families, I can't thank you enough for your service.

Sincerely,

Gov. Lujan Grisham
