Ripon Society Hosts Luncheon Discussion

with Geoff Antell, Chief of Staff to the Senate Republican Whip

WASHINGTON, DC — The Ripon Society held a luncheon discussion yesterday afternoon with Geoff Antell, a veteran Congressional aide who now serves as Chief of Staff to the Republican Whip of the United States Senate, U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-SD).

“It’s a busy time on Capitol Hill to say the least,” stated Jim Conzelman, the President & CEO of The Ripon Society.  “From rising energy prices to the broken supply chain to the biggest annual increase in inflation in over 30 years, our country is faced with a set of pressing challenges as we emerge from the pandemic and look toward 2022.

“We appreciate Geoff taking time to join us to discuss these challenges and the effort Senator Thune is leading to make sure they are addressed with common sense conservative solutions that put the American people first, rather than big government solutions that give Washington a greater role in our lives.”

Prior to serving on the staff of Senator Thune, Antell spent six years serving as Trade Counsel for the Ways & Means Committee.  He later served as Assistant for Policy and Counsel in the Office of then-Speaker Paul Ryan.  He joined Thune’s staff in 2019, serving first as his Policy Director before taking over as Chief of Staff of the Whip’s office in September this year.

“From rising energy prices to the broken supply chain to the biggest annual increase in inflation in over 30 years, our country is faced with a set of pressing challenges as we emerge from the pandemic and look toward 2022.”

According to Conzelman, yesterday’s luncheon was attended by a crowd of 60 people, and was the 20th in-person event The Ripon Society has hosted since early June. He added that The Ripon Society’s next event will be held next week, when UK Ambassador Karen Pierce, U.S. Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), and Ways and Means Ranking Member Kevin Brady (TX-8) come together to discuss the Special Relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom and the future of U.S.-UK trade.

The Ripon Society is a public policy organization that was founded in 1962 and takes its name from the town where the Republican Party was born in 1854 – Ripon, Wisconsin. One of the main goals of The Ripon Society is to promote the ideas and principles that have made America great and contributed to the GOP’s success. These ideas include keeping our nation secure, keeping taxes low and having a federal government that is smaller, smarter and more accountable to the people.
