John,

This Veterans Day, we remember and honor all the brave men and women who serve and have served our country in the line of duty.

The freedoms and liberties we hold dear in the United States of America are protected and preserved for us thanks to the service and sacrifice by members of our armed forces.

As the second most populous state in the nation, Texas also has the second largest population of veterans. More than 1.4 million veterans live in Texas, and we are honored they have chosen to set down their roots in the Lone Star State.

Our state is also home to Fort Hood, nicknamed "The Great Place," which is the third-largest military base in the world, by population and area, and the biggest armored post featuring active-duty military. To our Texas veterans and the millions living in other states across the nation, we thank you for your selflessness, courage, and patriotism. You remind all of us daily what it means to serve and protect others.

In the words of President Dwight D. Eisenhower: "Let us solemnly remember the sacrifices of all those who fought so valiantly, on the seas, in the air, and on foreign shores, to preserve our heritage of freedom, and let us reconsecrate ourselves to the task of promoting an enduring peace so that their efforts shall not have been in vain."

We hope all of you will join us in taking time today to thank a veteran in your life for their service to the country we all love and cherish.

Honor and Remember,
