Folks,

Last week, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act came to the Senate floor . Before they even had the chance to debate the legislation, Republicans blocked the bill from being passed.

This team knows how much this legislation means to me and our district. Named after my colleague, friend, and mentor, Representative John Lewis, this bill was meant to restore the provisions of the original Voting Rights Act and defend the sacred right to vote.

Senate Republicans have yet again attempted to thwart democracy by stopping this bill dead in its tracks. Can you sign my petition demanding that Republicans in Congress agree to protect the right to vote?

Friends — let me take this moment to be open with you. Our chances of passing a voter protection law before 2022 are vanishing fast.

Republicans across the country have made it their goal to suppress the right to vote and GOP leaders in Congress are green lighting it. This is the FOURTH time this year some form of voting legislation has been blocked by Republicans in Congress.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that voter suppression has become part of the Republican platform.

While the door to protect voting rights ahead of the midterms is closing, I remain steadfast in my mission to ensure every American has access to the ballot box. That said, my voice would be a lot more powerful if I had you speaking up with me.

Can you use your voice and tell my Republican colleagues that you won’t compromise on your support for passing comprehensive voter protection laws?

We can win this fight if we raise our voices together.

Thanks for speaking up,

Terri Sewell
