John,
Today, we stop to appreciate our veterans. To really appreciate the sacrifices our veterans have made. To appreciate how they put their lives at risk. To appreciate how they left their families behind. To appreciate what they gave up in order to protect our country and our freedom. To our veterans: THANK YOU.
Every one of us is indebted to those who served our country. Our veterans – and their families – deserve so much more than just one day to commemorate their sacrifices and bravery. But a day dedicated to expressing our gratitude and appreciation is a good start.
We have a responsibility to our veterans to provide the services they need after returning home. In Congress, I am committed to ensuring that all veterans have access to quality healthcare, a steady job, and a safe place to live. Yesterday, as Chair of the Subcommittee in Nutrition, Oversight and Department Operations, I convened a hearing to examine the issue of food insecurity among veterans. I am committed to working towards solutions to this problem.
This Veterans Day, I am asking you to join me in honoring and remembering our veterans for everything they and their families have done to protect our lives, our freedom, and our country. Today and every day – thank you. Now, let’s show our appreciation by taking care of them.
– Jahana
