Serving our country in the United States Army was the greatest honor of my life. Every single Veterans Day, I reflect on the brave men and women I served with during my 24 years in the military, especially the ones who never got to make it home. Veterans Day hits differently for those of us who are Veterans. It brings back floods of emotions, both good and bad, from some of the most pivotal years of our lives. The vast majority of us never left the battlefield behind when we came home. We live with the memories of some of humanity’s darkest moments, and we’re reminded each day of what it’s like to walk the fine line between life and death for your country. I would tell you to thank a Veteran in your life, but for the millions of veterans who are still fighting wars every day in their minds, just a “thank you” is not enough. We owe our freedom, our livelihoods, and our safety to these brave men and women. No words can ever express my gratitude to every single person who has served. So instead of just a “thank you” on this Veterans Day, I want to challenge whomever reads this to truly take stock of everything our Veterans and active duty members sacrifice. Remember the freedoms you take for granted, and do what you can to make a Veteran or service member’s life just a little bit brighter today. I will never stop working to create a better world for our Veterans, and I hope you can join me in giving them the support, the respect, and the honor they deserve not just today, but every day of the year. God bless our Veterans, God bless our active duty troops, and God bless America. Col.
