Happy Veterans Day, friend.
On this special holiday, I'm joining Americans across the country in honoring generations of veterans who have bravely answered our nation's call to serve.
Each of the 19 million veterans in our country has their own story of service and sacrifice, including missed moments with their family, physical or emotional wounds – and devastating scars from losing peers while serving.
While I've never seen firsthand what these service members have seen in military combat, I know what it's like to put your life on the line to protect others. I spent 27 years as a police officer, so I know that this kind of service takes courage, discipline – and above all else – a deep commitment to the American people.
I have also listened closely as veterans speak about how difficult the transition to civilian life can be, and I am deeply committed to ensuring that veterans stay supported and have the resources they need to make that transition. I will continue to advocate for our veterans to ensure each and every service member has comprehensive health care, quality housing and jobs with dignity.
I'm so grateful to American veterans every day, and I'd like to take this occasion to say: To all those who protect our nation, your bravery and commitment to our country are exemplary. Thank you for your service.
Forever grateful,
Congresswoman Val Demings
