Thelma is a quiet and sensitive soul. She enjoys peaceful walks through her yard, feeling the warmth of the sun on her face, and sleeping close, wing to wing, with her family at night. Just breathing. Being. Belonging.

It's unthinkable that anyone would want to harm such a kind and gentle being.

But before coming to Sanctuary, Thelma had a different life: she was bound for meat production. And as a darkly plumed "heritage" bird, Thelma could sell for five to eight times more than her factory-farmed counterparts.

Thelma is one of the lucky ones. A rescuer helped her evade slaughter and she found her way to Farm Sanctuary. Here, her worth isn't based on her flesh. Here, she's a bright, loving presence whose life is all her own.
