John,
Today is Veterans Day, so I want to take a moment to honor those who have served, and thank those who are currently serving.
As a former Navy fighter pilot, the husband of a Navy helicopter pilot, and the son of a fellow Navy officer, this day is personal to me.
My wife, Debbie
I am honored to have served our nation and allies during multiple combat tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan alongside so many extraordinary men and women who made countless sacrifices to keep our country safe.
In fact, just the other day I learned that one of my Afghan interpreters who I helped bring to the United States on a Special Visa passed his citizenship interview and will have his oath ceremony at the end of the month. These are the types of stories and moments that remind me how truly honored I am to have played even a small role in our country’s efforts abroad.
Serving this country in uniform has been a great honor and privilege of my life, but it also showed me how difficult it is for veterans to transition from military to civilian life. That’s why once I returned home, I started a nonprofit to support veterans with the knowledge and confidence to set them on successful paths to new careers.
Now, I’m running for Congress to be a voice for our veterans and help ensure that our country keeps its promises to those who served in uniform -- because no veteran should have to fight another battle once they return home to get the care and support they earned. There is still so much to be done, and I’m ready to do my part.
Thank you,
Paul
