Jack, today we honor the brave veterans of the United States Armed Forces.

My family has a long history of military service. My grandfather’s service in World War II, and my father’s service in the Korean War inspired me to follow in their footsteps.

In the midst of the First Gulf War, while still in high school, I signed up to join the Marines. I joined because I wanted to do my part in serving this country. I served for eight years and undertook training in communication, engineering and counter-terrorism. I learned how important dedication, perseverance and dependability are to defending our country’s values that we all strive to uphold.

As a veteran, I understand firsthand the courage and sacrifice it takes to protect our freedom and wellbeing here at home. Servicemembers take on an impossible burden that sticks with them forever.

I’m forever grateful for the hard work these heroes do in service to our country.
