Dear John,

I enlisted in the Army as a young man to serve my country. After I received an Honorable Discharge in 1971, I found a new calling in a different kind of service: public service. I have never forgotten the men and women with whom I served, nor have I forgotten my conviction to advocate for veterans and service members wherever I go.

On this Veterans Day, I thank my fellow veterans, current service members, and military spouses and families, all of whom make tremendous sacrifices so that we all may enjoy our constitutional rights to life, to liberty, and to the pursuit of happiness.

I am proud to represent a district which includes Fort Benning and the Marine Corps Logistics Base and is home to thousands of military and veteran families. I affirm my commitment to strengthening veterans’ benefits including full-spectrum health care, and to living the values for which our troops risk their lives: service, freedom, and democracy.

Happy Veterans Day.

Sincerely,

Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
