John, I’m not being hyperbolic when I say the federal government is the worst slumlord in the United States.
I grew up in public housing.
I know the mold and mildew.
I know the lead paint.
I know the inconsistent heat and cold water.
And despite that, the federal government is underfunding public housing to the tune of forty billion dollars. That’s $40,000,000,000, John.
This is a social contract upon which the federal government has defaulted. It is willful neglect that, if done by a private company, would put someone in prison.
That’s why I’m asking supporters like you to sign my petition in support of investing in our public housing — and our people. With a Democratic Congress and White House, our time for action is now:
