John,
It seems like all of the press coverage about the Build Back Better plan has been about how much it costs or what a few Senators think about key pieces.
But the most important part is getting lost: The caregiving families whose lives will be made better by the plan’s investments in home care, child care, and paid leave.
We want to draw attention back to where it belongs — on our families, on our communities. And there’s no better way to do that than by telling our stories, publicly, on social media.

So, just what will be the impacts of this bill on caregiving families?
- Expanding Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) so states can clear their waiting lists — where more than 800,000 people who qualify for home care have been waiting for up to five years or more to receive services.
- Raising wages for caregivers so care workers can better care for their own families as well as the people they work for.
- Providing free, high-quality, accessible, and inclusive preschool for all 3-and 4-year-olds, benefitting 5 million children and saving the average family $13,000.
- Creating a system of paid family and medical leave so working family caregivers, working people with disabilities, and working older adults will be able to give and receive the care they need without sacrificing their well-being.
And that’s just the start!
November is National Family Caregivers Month, so the time is now for Congress to pass this bill to declare their support for caregiving families. If we want Congress to do their job, your Senators and Representatives need to hear from you, the people who will be most affected by the Build Back Better plan.
Will you join us in sharing your family’s story and photo on Twitter to make sure our elected officials focus on the human impact of the Build Back Better plan? Sharing a photo will help connect stories and faces to the real people whose lives this plan will change. Photos make the facts harder to ignore for your elected officials.
