Friends -- I want to talk about the connection between what Republicans are doing in the states and what they're doing at the federal level.

The voting rights bills that they are blocking in the Senate would enact exactly the reforms we need to stop them from gerrymandering and restricting voting rights in the states. Here's how President Obama explained it:

"If we pass the Freedom to Vote Act, the new Texas congressional map would fail to pass the partisan gerrymandering test. The bill would also restore voting rights stripped by state legislatures in Texas and elsewhere this summer.

And the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would help protect against future voter suppression laws." (President Obama)

So you can see why Senate Republicans are so eager to obstruct federal legislation that will stop state-level Republicans from gerrymandering and restricting the freedom to vote. But just because they're doing it doesn't mean we're going to let them get away with it!
