Alexandria is in Glasgow, Scotland at the UN climate summit, COP26.

Having Alexandria in this space is extremely significant. Because here’s the thing:

Too often, places like COP and other decision making rooms are dominated by one perspective.

But when you have someone at the table like Alexandria – someone who comes from an organizing background, who was inspired to run for office by the Indigenous communities at Standing Rock, who refuses to take a dime from fossil fuel executives and lobbyists, and who now represents a frontline community – it actually can change outcomes.

Alexandria has and will always speak up for us in the halls of power – it’s what she’s doing right now at COP26. It doesn’t matter if she’s the youngest in the room or who she’s surrounded by.

Already at COP, she’s elevated the link between new fossil fossil construction and missing and murdered Indigenous women and put pressure on Big Oil to take accountability. She’s advocating for centering Indigenous people in negotiations, not just in speeches, and holding the U.S. accountable to “walk the walk” and actually pass emissions drawdowns through the Build Back Better Act.

Having a voice like Alexandria in meetings with Former Secretary of State and Special Envoy for the Climate, John Kerry, and other top officials is a big deal – and we need to make sure she can continue advocating for our climate and communities in the places where decisions are happening.
