** Outreach & Resources

Last week community partners worked to house three people from the top of the Coordinated Entry List! We are all excited by this progress and hope to continue finding placements for folks.

On Tuesday, November 23rd, we will be hosting a Single Adults Case Conferencing meeting where providers can discuss resources and potential avenues of assistance for clients with unique barriers, as well as discuss best outreach practices for any clients that have received a recent referral.

Please be advised that there will be no outreach on Thursday, November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day!

Reminder: The next Outreach Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 17th at 10 AM.

HRAC's Petition to the Assembly
"HRAC RECOMMENDS WITHHOLDING RATIFICATION OF THE MAYOR’S APPOINTMENTS TO THE HLEAB UNTIL YOU HAVE ASCERTAINED THAT THE INDIVIDUALS’ HAVE RELEVANT (& PREFERABLY RECENT LOCAL) HOUSELESS LIVED EXPERIENCE
AO 2021-76 ([link removed]) established the Municipality’s new Houseless Lived Experience Advisory Board “to provide input and feedback to the Assembly and Mayor on housing and homelessness solutions with "the goal of centering the perspective of those with lived experience.” HRAC’s Steering Committee has reviewed all information provided on the Assembly website pertaining to the November 9th Agenda Item 10.D.17. The information provided for public review specifies the category of experience “suggested but not required” by AO 2021-76, but it contains no specific information regarding the houseless lived experience of the individual nominees - none."

** Covenant House Alaska

Candlelight Vigil

On November 18, 2021, Covenant House Alaska will host the Candlelight Vigil for Youth Experiencing Homelessness.

Candlelight Vigil will be a free, in-person event and will be held at the Alaska Native Heritage Center at 6 p.m.

Addressing racial inequity in homeless response
Charlotte, North Carolina, is working to create a racially equitable homeless response system. ([link removed])
The community is making significant progress toward ending veteran homelessness.
But they noticed something troubling in their data: 77% of the homeless population in the Mecklenburg County is Black, while only 34% of the general population is Black. This group is dramatically over-represented in their homeless population.

“The very aspirational goal, knowing we can’t control everything, is that people of color are no longer disproportionately entering our system, and when they are in the system, successfully exit at equal rates as other populations,” said Kathryn Firmin-Sellers, the Vice Chair of the Continuum of Care’s Equity and Inclusion Committee.

** National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC)

House Fails to Vote on “Build Back Better Act,” Delays Action to Week of November 14
The House of Representatives failed to vote on November 5 on the “Build Back Better Act,” a $1.75 trillion economic recovery package containing $150 billion in vital affordable housing and community development investments. Democratic centrists refused to vote on the bill without first receiving and analyzing a Congressional Budget Office analysis of the bill. The House instead passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill, which the House had previously tied to the passage of Build Back Better as leverage to get the broader social spending bill passed. An agreement was reach between the progressives and moderates in the evening of November 5 to vote on the Build Back Better Act during the week of November 14.

In anticipation of flu season and the arrival of colder temperatures, many communities have turned their attention to winter weather planning with a focus on infectious disease preparedness.

A panel representing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Health Care for the Homeless Council (NHCHC), and HUD is hosting a webinar on Monday, November 15, 2021, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM EST. The webinar will highlight the steps that the partnership of homeless assistance providers, Continuums of Care (CoCs), public health agencies, and health care providers can take to minimize COVID-19 transmission.
