John — Sometimes it’s too easy to let climate change fade into the background of everyday life. It’s possible to get lost in the statistics and forget the true costs of increasing temperatures and rising sea levels. But island nations like Tuvalu can never forget.
We refer to climate change as an existential threat — and it is, for everyone. But nowhere is it more of a life-or-death threat than in the eight islands that make up Tuvalu.
The highest point on the island nation is 15 feet above sea level, and waters are rising 0.2 inches every year. Unfortunately, that’s even faster than the global average.
If we don’t stop our planet’s rising temperatures, these nations will literally sink below the seas. Their people displaced and their culture lost forever.

It was a stark message of what will happen if we cover our eyes and ears. But SEEC members in Congress are fighting for aggressive, bold action on climate change.
As we speak, a dozen SEEC members, including Rep. Raul Grijalva, Rep. Chellie Pingree, Rep. Jared Huffman, Rep. Sean Casten, Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, and Rep. Joe Neguse are in Glasgow fighting for climate action. Some of our SEEC members represent the most at-risk, swing seats in Congress — but they won’t stop fighting to save our planet and the most vulnerable people who will be impacted by climate change.
